AN APPEAL against an order banning one of Liverpool’s oldest clubs from using its patio area entered its second day yesterday.
The case, which involves an appeal against a noise abatement order issued to the Blue Angel on Seel Street, heard from council officials and a sound technician.
The club is currently banned from using its outdoor patio area following a long running dispute with people living in newly-built apartments in nearby Chinatown and the Ropewalks.
It is thought the club’s appeal against the order – issued by the city council in November – will run until the end of the week.
Giving evidence John Shaw, business manager of the council’s environmental protection unit, said he had personally carried out inspections of the flats during noisy periods.
He said: “The music and noise from patrons was clearly audible in the property.”
But a sound engineer called by the Blue Angel said once inside a property it is often impossible to distinguish where noise is coming from, especially with so many other neighbouring establishments.
The venue opened in 1961 and is now one of the most popular night-time venues for students in the city.
The case continues at Liverpool Magistrates Court.
