Walkers to put their best foot forward for charity

THOUSANDS of walkers are expected to descend on the Wirral coastline tomorrow to raise thousands of pounds in one of the borough’s biggest charity events.

The annual Wirral Coastal Walk started in autumn 1986, with 100 people taking part. Last year there were around 5,000 participants who raised an estimated £350,000.

The 15-mile stroll from Seacombe Ferry, through New Brighton, Leasowe, Meols, Hoylake, West Kirby and Caldy, finishes at Thurstaston Country Park.

And for the tenth consecutive year, Unilever UK at Port Sunlight is sponsoring the event, which is organised by the Rotary Club of North Wirral.

Unilever’s external affairs co-ordinator, Elaine Hazlehurst, said: “We are extremely proud of the fact that we have sponsored this event for the past ten years.

“All Unilever employees who complete the walk on Sunday will receive a £50 cheque for their chosen charity.’’

Jim Costello from the Rotary Club of North Wirral added: “We are extremely grateful for Unilever’s invaluable support over the past 10 years, in what has proved to be a very successful partnership.”
