A TEENAGER and a man have been convicted of the “cold-blooded” execution of a father-of-two.
Michael “Mikey” Wright was shot three times in the head at point-blank range as he sat in his car.
A jury at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday found Philip Woolley, 19, and David Hibbs-Turner, 30, guilty of his killing.
Woolley, of Roderick Road, Walton, was found guilty unanimously after nearly three days of deliberations.
Hibbs-Turner, who the prosecution said ordered the killing, was found guilty by a majority less than an hour later.
The jury are still considering their verdicts in the case of two others – Mark Richardson, 24, of Sherwoods Road, Fazakerley, and Paul Hollands, 19, of Portlemouth Road, Croxteth – who are also charged with murder. During a four-week trial, the jury were told Hibbs-Turner had organised the slaying because of a personal dispute with Mr Wright.
Tim Holroyde, QC, prosecuting, told the court there was “no love lost” between the two men after Mr Wright’s girlfriend and the mother of his child Jennifer Tasker began a relationship with Hibbs-Turner.
It is alleged that on the night of the murder, two of Hibbs-Turner’s associates Richardson and Hollands spotted Mr Wright as he drove to Croxteth’s Stonedale Retail Park. It is claimed they alerted Hibbs-Turner, who then rang Woolley.
Minutes later Woolley and another man, who is not standing trial, sped along the East Lancs Road in a black Skoda Octavia.
They were noticed by two plain-clothed police officers in an unmarked car, who followed them into the retail park, where the pair pulled up near the KFC. Moments later three shots blasted out and a man was seen running back to the Skoda.
Mr Wright, 34, of Waterloo Dock, Liverpool city centre died later that night in hospital.
The jury will continue their deliberations in the case of Hollands and Richardson next week.
