Teenager critical after St Helens park attack

A TEENAGER remains in a critical condition after being assaulted in a St Helens park a week ago.

Police have arrested 10 people as their investigation continues into what happened at Sherdley Park, St Helens, on May 22.

The 17-year-old sustained serious head injuries between 7.30pm and 8.30pm in a "sickening attack". Supt Peter Edge said: "I would like to thank all those people who have so far come forward to assist us. That said, we still need to speak to anyone who was in Sherdley Park who may have information which may help us put those responsible for this sickening attack before the courts.

"This was a cowardly and unprovoked attack which has left a young man fighting for his life. No misguided loyalty to those responsible can outweigh the duty of those with relevant information

to come forward. We will find those responsible, and we will use all investigative techniques at our disposal to ensure they are held to account."

A major incident room has been established at St.Helens Police Station The latest person to be arrested is a 16-year-old girl from the St Helens area on suspicion of assault.

This brings the number of arrests to date to 10 people, all teenagers. All have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
