The Shankly Show to be performed in Scotland

ONE of the highlights of Liverpool’s year as Capital of Culture is to be seen in Scotland.

The Shankly Show, which drew a capacity crowd when it was performed at Liverpool Olympia last month, receives its Scottish premiere in Dumfries and Galloway this weekend.

The play, which was commissioned by the Liverpool Culture Company, brings to dramatic life the amazingly successful life and times of Liverpool FC manager Bill Shankly.

Alexander “Sandy” West reprises his solo role in the production, which uses old TV footage and interviews.

The Shankly Show was a sell-out when it premiered in the 1,200-seater Liverpool theatre.

By contrast, audiences of just up to 200 in Gretna and 250 in Kirkconnel will be able to see the show on its first tour.

The Shankly Show’s producers said they wanted to take the drama to both big and small venues, and ensure that as wide an audience as possible got the chance to share in the magic of Shankly’s life.
