Have say on £150m education project

ONE of St Helens’s biggest-ever public consultations has been launched into plans to close, rebuild and refurbish the borough’s schools.

The £150m Building Schools for the Future programme hopes to transform the borough’s schools into 21st-century learning centres.

Plans to close St Augustine’s and St Cuthbert’s and open a new Catholic learning centre on the site of St Cuthbert’s will be specifically discussed.

Cllr Shirley Evans, executive member for children and young people’s services, said: “This is a tremendous investment into the borough's schools and into local communities, which will support the ongoing regeneration and modernisation of St Helens.”

The consultations to discuss the Catholic learning centre will be held at: St Augustine’s, 7pm. on June 11. and St Cuthbert’s, at 7pm, on June 16.

General consultation on proposals to rebuild and refurbish schools will be held at: World of Glass, on 7pm, June 24, 25, and July 1, and 8.
