Club to host a comedy first

THE Scouse House Cafe in Oliver Street, Birkenhead, hosts its first Funny Club tonight as a supplement to the Liverpool Comedy Festival.

Compered by Sam Harland – one of the six nominees shortlisted for the prestigious Mercury New Comedian Of The Year 2008 – the Open Mic Night also features star turns from John Gorman (who coined the name The Funny Club) and - subject to availability - Pauline Daniels.

The event, a collaboration between Scouse House, Wirral Words poetry club and Express Comedy, is the first of regular sessions to be staged on the first Tuesday of the month and begins at 7.30pm. The stage is free to any budding comedians.

For those who want to eat beforehand, the cafe is pioneering a new Liverpool themed taster menu. Entitled Wackers’ Tapas for £5 there are a number of options: Scouse Tartlet; Peawack Pie; Buck Rarebit Bite; Bangers & Mash Mouthful with onion gravy; Diddymen’s Scotch Eggs or Savoury Bread Pudding with Bacon, Broccoli & Stilton.
