Mersey council voted UK’s best

A MERSEYSIDE council has been named the best in the country, beating 10,000 other authorities to the title.

Halewood Town Council won the Local Council of the Year award at the 2008 National Association of Local Councils (NALC) conference, at Eastbourne.

The group also picked up a cheque for £500 towards a community project.

NALC is the representative body for over 10,000 local town and parish councils in England and Wales, and to be crowned as number one is being claimed as a “magnificent achievement”.

The honours did not stop there, and the town council also picked up the Local Council Review/Co-Op Bank Annual Report of the Year awardfor their annual 60-page glossy booklet that goes to every home in the area. It is the third time in four years the council has won this prize.
