Tunnels author launches own celebration of culture

KIRKBY-BORN author Nicky Allt signed copies of his new book, The Culture of Capital, at Waterstones, in Bold Street, Liverpool.

Allt, co-creator of the acclaimed Royal Court success, Brick Up The Mersey Tunnels, and author of football-themed The Boys From The Mersey and Here We Go Gathering Cups in May, said his latest work was about Liverpool and what it and its culture means to the average man or woman in the street.

“Liverpool is about young scallies and old dockers who sing and dance all night in the pub, and the girls pushing prams who should still be in prams themselves,” said Allt, who mixed short stories, autobiography and guest contributions from local musicians, actors and other writers to compile the book – published by University of Liverpool Press.
