City’s Teen Idols get their chance to shine
FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD Danielle Mutch was crowned Teen Idol 2008 at a prestigious concert at Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall last night.
The St Julie’s Catholic high school pupil was one of 14 teenagers shortlisted for the prize after impressing judges with their singing ability.
The finalists were whittled down from 150 talented students who entered from 13 South Liverpool secondary schools. After singing a cappella during auditions, the top 48 students performed at one of four semi-final evenings in front of a live audience at Parklands Learning Centre, before the final last night.
In second place was Stuart Campbell, 14, a pupil of the Blue Coat School, in Wavertree, while in third place was Renos Georgiou, 14, of Calderstones Community School.
Now in its fifth year, the Teen Idol project was created and organised by City Learning Centres.
The inter-school competition hopes to motivate and inspire young people through culture and activity.
Actor and presenter Simon O’Brien and St Julie’s sixth former Kaitlin Moran hosted the show, supported by dancers from the Hammond School, in Chester.
