Woman’s petrol bomb revenge

Liverpool Crown Court

A WOMAN armed herself with a Molotov cocktail to take revenge on a neighbour.

Caroline McLoughlin created a home-made petrol bomb and went to the home of Cindy Brown with a lighted cigarette.

Liverpool Crown Court heard an argument broke out and she slapped the terrified Ms Brown, who feared she would ignite the bomb.

The incident is understood to have been sparked after McLoughlin, 34, discovered something on the internet about her unborn baby, which had died just weeks before. McLoughlin, who suffers from epilepsy, became convinced her neighbours were responsible and decided to take revenge.

She emptied a Southern Comfort bottle – leaving glasses of alcohol in her fridge – and filled it with petrol, before stuffing it with a tissue.

She then walked into Ms Brown’s home, on Conifer Close, Kirkby, carrying a lighted cigarette.

McLoughlin, of Bairchester Drive, Aigburth, was originally charged with threats to commit criminal damage.

But she pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of affray as her trial was due to start yesterday.

Judge William George granted McLoughlin bail and adjourned sentencing for reports until July 14.

McLoughlin suffers from epilepsy and has had fits during previous court appearances.

Kim Egerton, prosecuting, said Ms Brown now believed McLoughlin had not intended to light the home-made bomb.
