Children unveil their Superlambanana design on Church St _320
A SUPERLAMBANANA designed by primary school children was unveiled yesterday in Liverpool city centre.
The colourful creation, sponsored by employment experts Pertemps People Development Group (PPDG), features seven jobs as seen through the eyes of pupils at two Walton schools – St Mary’s and St Matthew’s.
PPDG ran a design competitionwith the theme of “When I Grow Up” as part of the Go Superlambananas public art exhibition.
With the help of artist Mike Badger, dozens of children drew pictures of themselves doing the jobs they would like to perform asadults.
Those images were transferred onto the Superlambanana which was officially unveiled in Church Street yesterday.
At St Mary’s, Bethany Monks drew a dog walker, and Michael McLauchlan a boxer. At St Matthew’s, Toni Taylor drew a female mechanic, Amy Tobin a care worker, Laura Briggs a photographer, Ellie Hopkins an artist and Katy Jones a singer.
Leanne Cole, employment coach at PPDG’s offices in Church Street, said: “We’re really proud of our fantastic Superlambanana and I’d like to thank all the children that took part in the competition.”
GO SUPERLAMBAN- ANAS is just one of the events during Liverpool’s European Capital of Culture year.
