VISITORS to the Go Superlambanana trail are being asked to take care of the art works, after a few suffered superficial damage.

Almost 120 of the creatures have adorned the streets of Liverpool for the past two weeks, much to the delight of the city and its visitors.

But, due to graffiti attacks, people sitting on them and bad weather, a few of the mini- Superlambananas have had to be repaired by a specialist team aimed at keeping them in tip-top condition.

Leader of Liverpool City Council, Cllr Warren Bradley, is calling on the people to take care of them to ensure everyone can enjoy them.

He said: “Since its arrival, the Superlambanana has captured the hearts and imagination of residents and has intrigued visitors to this city.

“It has become a much- loved symbol of the city’s regeneration and everyone is enjoying their favourite piece of sculpture in many different guises.

“Unfortunately, though, some of the sculptures have been damaged by people sitting on them and some have even been graffitied.

“Damaged ones are quickly being repaired and put back out, but my message is if you see anyone climbing on them or damaging these wonderful works of art, please stop them or report it.

“They are only made of fibreglass and can be damaged easily. The Superlambananas have been a phenomenal success and we want to keep them on the streets.”

Sally-Ann Wilkinson, director of Wild in Art, the company behind the event, agreed with Cllr Bradley and added: “The major problem is wear and tear and the weather.

“We have a task force who are out and about.”
