Story of the Eldonians praised

A BOOK about Liverpool’s ground-breaking Eldonian Village has been acclaimed by politicians at an official launch at the House of Commons, in London.

The launch for the book, The Rebirth of Liverpool: The Eldonian Way, by Jack McBane, was attended by a number of public figures including Hazel Blears, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, former Tory environment minister Lord Jenkins and Liverpool Vauxhall MP Louise Ellman, within whose constituency the village lies.

“The book tells a very encouraging and inspiring story combining idealism and enterprise which should be used as a model blueprint for the whole of the country,” said Mrs Ellman.

“It marked a wonderful achievement for Liverpool and pioneered a number of things, including the idea of using community wardens.”

Ms Blears said: "The Eldonian Village is a story of people standing together, making their own choices about their community's future.

“Today, people from the UK and around the world look to it as an example of how you get regeneration right. I hope this book will inspire many more to follow in the Eldonians' footsteps."
