Artwork tunes into Tatton Park’s night-time soundbites

THE night-time sounds of Tatton Park, in Cheshire, will form the basis of an unusual artwork on show to the public next month.

Artist Lucie Potter is the latest oneplace artist in residence at the popular tourist attraction.

Over recent months, she has been field record- ing the day and night-time sounds of the parkland, for the creation of a distinctive Sound Walk.

This will be available for the public to experience from the beginning of July as part of “oneplace” – Tatton’s ambitious land-scape contemporary art programme.

Her research for the piece has explored how visitors engage with Tatton’s parkland, through both historic and current maps and guided tours.

She said: “Sound is a sensual medium, which evoke times and places for us. Hearing is subtle yet can also have a profound effect on the listener.”

Using high tech record-ing equipment and sensi-tive microphones, Lucie’s work “reveals a world just out of our perception”.

Brendan Flanagan, general manager, said: “Lucie's work adds yet another dimension to the oneplace arts programme, which comes to its finale this year during Chesh- ire's Year of Gardens with an exhibition at Tatton in July. It was good to include sound, giving a different experience of the Park.”
