Buildings miss out in Riba awards

LIVERPOOL’S finest new buildings missed out on national awards this weekend.

The Royal Institute of British Architects (Riba) chose the Manchester Civil Justice Centre among their 16 strong list of winners on Friday.

The Arena and Convention Centre, which this week has hosted a conference for the country’s most senior policemen and top boyband Westlife, and The Bluecoat were both in the running for a national award.

One of the winners will now be picked as the Riba Building of the Year earning it the prestigious title of Riba Stirling Prize winner.

The winning architect receives a cash prize of £20,000. The prize is named after the great British architect Sir James Stirling.
