West irby pupils present their ideas for the town to the mayor

STUDENTS from a school in West Wirral have presented their own suggestions for the proposed redevelopment of their seaside town to the borough’s mayor.

Pupils from Hilbre High School, West Kirby, attended an exhibition to present the mayor with their “My Town Too” manifesto – a document detailing how they want their town in the future.

The students’ manifesto calls for “a town where we do not feel intimidated or judged, but where we feel protected” and “a place to meet without fear, or threat of being moved on, or treated with suspicion”.

They also said they wanted a town which had “a strong community” and would be “a place to grow with us as we grow older”.

Carpenter Investments, the Merseyside-based development company chosen by Wirral Borough Council to develop a new sailing school and boutique hotel, unveiled their proposals at a public exhibition this week.

One of those behind the development company Carpenter Investments, Alan Beer, said he was delighted the public consultation exercise was now under way.

He said: “As a West Kirby resident, and member of this community, I want to deliver a development that will enhance the town and be a positive benefit for visitors and local people.”
