Bethany Wood
A TODDLER described as a “beautiful princess” was run over and killed yards from her mother in a tight-knit Wirral cul-de-sac yesterday.
Tributes, flowers and teddy bears laid down by neighbours mark the spot on Wilkes Avenue where Bethany Wood was run over.
The bubbly two-year-old was playing with friends yesterday afternoon after her first visit to Leasowe Early Years Centre – the school she was due to attend in September.
Her mother Mary Wood, 32, was one of several people keeping an eye on the children as they enjoyed a picnic on two grassy commons at Wilkes Avenue.
But at 2.45pm yesterday an orange Citroen Saxo, thought to be driven by a neighbour, collided with the toddler.
Her distraught mother, who is heavily pregnant, was too upset to talk to the Daily Post last night.
But Bethany’s grandmother, Joyce Wood, said Mary heard a big bang and someone shouted: “It’s your Bethany”.
Emergency services were called and Bethany was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital.
