Canoeist rescued from sea

A CANOEIST had to be rescued when he over-turned at sea last night.

The 24-year-old man capsized off Ainsdale beach at about 9.30pm while paddling in the sea close to a group of friends.

He tumbled from the boat and had to cling on for 30 minutes as coastguards were mobilised at Crosby and Southport.

A Coastguard spokesman said although he was wearing buoyancy aids, he become cold and had drifted some 250 yards out to sea. He was taken to Southport and Ormskirk Hospital for checks
