A LIVERPOOL charity features in a national report assessing knife and gun crime in Britain.
Community Foundation for Merseyside last night featured in the Street Weapons Commission TV programme which forms part of the project.
The foundation, which launched the Merseyside Young Transformers (MYT) Programme last November, explained to the commission how its programme helps steer young people away from the lure of crime, as part of Channel 4’s Disarming Britain season.
Cathy Elliott, assistant chief executive of Community Foundation for Merseyside, said: “The Merseyside Young Transformers Programme aims to support young people who are at risk of involvement in crime, anti-social behaviour and gangs. The programme drives new funding into Merseyside’s community, especially by creating a sustainable cash investment called endowment. Our overall aim is to provide financial support to local projects that give young people who are disaffected in their communities real opportunities to transform their lives.”
Through the MYT programme, the Community Foundation for Merseyside delivers grants to community projects that work with young people.
