Police out in force after shooting

A THIRD man was shot in just five days in Liverpool yesterday, prompting police to flood the streets with officers.

Three victims have been left nursing wounds after a string of targeted attacks.

Yesterday, a 41-year-old man was shot in the leg as he sat in his front room.

A masked gunman burst into the man’s house in Edinburgh Road, Kensington, at 12.20am and fired a single shot.

The victim was taken to hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment.

His shooting, added to the two others in the small area on the fringe of the city centre, has left police chiefs with no choice but to flood the streets with officers.

From yesterday, the specialist Matrix unit will be out in force to stop the spate of gun violence.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: “We are treating these as isolated incidents, but they have occurred in close proximity.

“As such, a new policing operation will be in place tonight to tackle the problem.”

Anyone with information should call the gun crime hotline on 0800 458 1218.
