A canoeist was rescued when she got caught in freak weather off the Wirral coast.
The woman was approximately two miles out from land at West Kirby when she was engulfed in a sudden squall with high winds, rain and poor visibility at 2.10pm.
She put up a red flare to raise the alarm alerting the coastguard, members of the local sailing club and the West Kirby lifeboat.
Dave Henshaw, lifeboat operation manager, said: "A boat from the sailing club went to her and checked she was ok while we went to check for anyone else who might have been caught up in the squall. She was a bit shaken up but unhurt. She was well kitted out and her canoe had everything she needed including a flare. She was brought ashore."
