Anti-social behaviour team launches new crackdown

A WIRRAL estate has been designated as a Respect Watch Scheme, as part of a crackdown on anti-social behaviour.

The initiative has been implemented in part of Royden Road, in Overchurch, by Wirral Anti-Social Behaviour Team, together with Merseyside Police and landlord Wirral Partnership Homes, with the support of residents.

The aim is to protect local people who have already suffered at the hands of anti-social individuals. The initiative can be implemented where anti-social behaviour has occurred that is so serious that legal action has been taken by the anti-social behaviour team.

Signs have been erected in the area, which rings some 82 properties, and residents were encouraged to form a Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

Caroline Laing, manager of Wirral Anti-Social Behaviour Team, said: “This initiative is designed to provide further protection to residents who have already suffered from serious anti-social behaviour.

“The large signs that have been erected make clear to anyone entering the area that anti-social behaviour will simply not be tolerated.”

Inspector Brian Griffiths, from Merseyside Police, added: “This initiative builds upon high visibility enforcement activity we have conducted in the area aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour, and will give that work added strength.”
