A GOLF guide championing the sport in the North West was launched yesterday.
The England’s Golf Coast brochure is being published to coincide with the arrival of 200,000 golf fans during next week’s Open tournament at Royal Birkdale.
The 56-page pamphlet, detailing the “finest stretch of championship golf in the world”, will be available in the main exhibition area and elsewhere at Birkdale.
It features the three “Royals” – Birkdale, Liverpool and Lytham St Annes, near Blackpool – plus 16 other naturally challenging courses.
Golf tourism gives a £10m-a-year boost to the region’s economy.
The hundreds of thousands of Open fans, together with a global broadcast audience of tens of millions, will turn their attention towards Birkdale when the world’s greatest golfers challenge each other to secure the coveted Claret Jug at next week’s tournament.
The England’s Golf Coast campaign is managed by The Mersey Partnership (TMP) on behalf of partners led by the Northwest Regional Development Agency.
Charlie Grimley, England’s Golf Coast development manager at TMP, said: “The Northwest has the best stretch of natural championship golf in the world, and around 200,000 people will be visiting it this summer for the British Open at Royal Birkdale.
“This publication is a superb guide to all that is good in the region, offering information, facts, figures and details of how golfing enthusiasts can return to the Northwest for a golfing break. This, together with our website, is an excellent way of reaching a huge international audience.”
