WITH his dark intensity and reputation for lonely brooding, Gordon Brown has been compared to Heathcliff – the anti-hero of Wuthering Heights, perhaps Britain's the best-loved novel.
Now the PM has stunned Westminster by agreeing he is like Emily Bronte's character, whose obsessive love for Catherine destroyed them both.
In an interview, Mr Brown is asked whether he understands why – thick-set, black hair, brooding – some women say he reminds them of Heathcliff?
He replies, perhaps in jest: “Absolutely correct. Well, maybe an older Heathcliff, a wiser Heathcliff.”
