TORRENTIAL rain brought road surface flooding to many parts of Merseyside last night.
However, homes largely escaped any water damage, although Knowsley council issued some residents with sandbags.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service reported surface flooding in Mossley Hill, Huyton, Dovecot, Rainford, Knowsley and Netherley, after the drains were unable to cope with the downpour.
Residents living in Churchdown Grove, Dovecot, last night expressed fears that they were about to be flooded again, only months after their homes were flooded because of blocked drains.
A fire service spokeswoman said: “We have had a busy night with flood alerts right across the city, rather than being confined to one particular area.
“These have been mainly in the roadway, with not many properties affected.
“The water has been getting close to the properties, but has not quite got in.”
