Complaints over new Post Office

LIVERPOOL’S new Post Office opened yesterday, replacing the Crown branch based in St John’s Shopping Arcade.

Controversy has dogged the decision to relocate the flagship service from its position close to the Queen Street bus station to a WHSmith shop in Liverpool One.

A spokesman for WHSmith said: “Customers’ reaction has been very positive.”

However, 54% of Daily Post readers surveyed said the new branch was “useless”.

A further 18% voting online deemed it disappointing, compared to another 18% who assess it as an excellent addition.

Store manager Robert Byrne also dealt with grumbles from elderly shoppers complaining it was upstairs and too far away from the bus station.

However, WHSmith regional manager Ian Rowley said: “This move follows the successful relocation of Post Offices into WHSmith stores in 2006 and 2007, where customer feedback highlighted the benefits of the change.”
