Street attack man cut by vase

THE Sunday lunchtime peace was broken in a south Liverpool suburb after a bleeding man was dragged from a house and assaulted.

Six people were arrested after the incident at the junction of Karslake Road and Stalbridge Road, Mossley Hill, at noon yesterday.

Last night, Merseyside police confirmed a man of Eastern European descent suffered leg and foot wounds caused by a smashed bathroom vase, and minutes later is believed to have been kicked in the head by a housemate as he sat outside.

An eyewitness said: "It was really bad. The man they were attacking was bleeding from a number of wounds.

"He had a terrible gash just above his foot and another wound to his side. He also had really bad scratches on his back just below his neck.

"I was scared when they just laughed at me – I thought I might be next."

Dozens of police, including forensics officers, were called to the incident and a cordon was set up around the house as six people, four men and two women, were led out in handcuffs.

One of the men was heard shouting in an Eastern European language as he was placed into a waiting police van.

A trainer and a pool of blood marked the spot on the pavement where paramedics helped the victim.

Concerned residents said the house had been the scene of heavy drinking for several months since a group of Eastern Europeans moved in.

A Merseyside police spokeswoman confirmed six housemates of the victim were arrested. and with the help of translators were being questioned last night.

She added: "It appears an item, probably a vase, has been smashed in the bathroom of the house causing the man to suffers cuts to a leg and lacerations to his foot.

"He has then run outside and been assaulted, kicked as he sat outside. He was taken to hospital and six other occupants - all believed to be Eastern European were arrested."
