Vicar in plea to ‘save our bees’

A LIVERPOOL vicar is leading efforts in Merseyside to ensure Britain’s bee population does not die out.

Reverend Trevor Latham, of St Mary’s Church, Walton, held an open day – Bee Happy – on Saturday, attended by about 20 people, to show would-be bee keepers the art of apiculture.

Rev Latham said that, as there are no longer wild honey bee colonies in Britain, it is more important than ever that people set up hives to look after the creatures that play a crucial role in the pollination of crops.

“We had a nice group of people here for the two workshops – bee keeping and exploring the products of bees.

“I am delighted with the level of interest shown in our Bee Happy day.
