A TEENAGER accused of try-ing to kill two police officers will face a retrial next year.
Anthony Bennett is alleged to have attempted to shoot constables Christopher Gawonek and Robert Jones as they chased him down an alley.
But a Liverpool Crown Court jury were unable to reach a verdict following a two-week trial in June.
The 18-year-old, of Harebell Street, Kirkdale, will now face a second trial.
Judge John Roberts yesterday fixed a trial date for February 9 next year.
The teenager admitted possessing a firearm on September 24, 2007, but he denied two counts of attempting to murder the police officers as they pursued him down Archer Close, Kirkdale.
He also denied possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.
The teenager is alleged to have pointed the loaded gun at the two officers, pulling the trigger on three occasions.
Both constables claimed they heard the gun click, but it failed to discharge.
