Schools to be rebuilt on one site
A MULTI-MILLION pound plan to house two Jewish schools in one building was given planning permission yesterday.
Last week, Liverpool council’s planning committee delayed making a decision on the £26m scheme to visit the King David School site in Childwall.
The committee had heard from objectors concerned the “super school” would create a traffic nightmare. The Childwall Road scheme is part of Liverpool’s £400m Building Schools for the Future project, replacing or refurbishing every sec- ondary school in the city.
It will see the existing King David Primary and High Schools replaced with new buildings on a combined site.
The project will also include a new nursery, and a replacement for the Harold House youth and community centre, which will be used by local people.
Education executive member Cllr Keith Turner said: “This is fantastic news for the local community.”
Max Steinberg, chairman of Governors at King David High and chairman of the campus executive steering group, added: “We were delighted at the news of the outline planning approval.
Work will begin at the start of 2009 and is expected to be completed by the autumn of 2010.
