Man held over killing

POLICE last night charged a man with the murder of a 64-year-old man with learning difficulties.

David Gard was battered to death as he slept upstairs in bed at his home in Adelaide Road, Kensington, in the early hours of March 13.

After the beating, four fires were started deliberately in separate rooms downstairs.

Mr Gard was pulled from the blaze but later died in hospital.

John Hodson, 26, of no fixed abode, was charged with the murder last night and is due to appear at Liverpool magistrates’ court today.
