Legendary striker shows the way at new sports store
FOOTBALL legend Ian Rush yesterday opened Nike’s new store at the Liverpool One development.
The two-storey store is the brand’s first outlet to be opened in the UK outside London.
Former Liverpool player Rush was the first UK footballer to be sponsored by Nike, and is part of a history of Nike-sponsored Number 9s that includes Robbie Fowler and Fernando Torres.
The store will also be a “digital and community sports hub”, offering services such as an online customised design service, where customers can design their own shoes on computers in the store with the help of trained staff.
There is also a digital service called Playmaker that allows amateur football teams to organise themselves and their players, as well as arrange matches.
The store will act as a collection point for old, unwanted sports shoes, which can then be ground down and recycled as part of Nike’s Re-Use-A-Shoe programme.
