Joseph Yobo's brother is freed after 12 days in captivity

Everton star’s brother is freed after 12 days in captivity

RELIEF has flooded Goodison after Everton FC star Joseph Yobo confirmed the release of his kidnapped brother last night.

Norum Yobo was dragged from his car at gunpoint along with two friends on July 6 as they made their way home from a nightclub in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

Fears were heightened when the expected ransom demands that usually follow kidnappings in the oil-rich Niger Delta region of the country failed to materialise. The two men seized along with Norum, later identified as Barry C Lakara and Ifeanyi Nwa were released within hours but because of Norum’s high profile a ransom was later demanded.

It is still not clear if any money was paid but, after 12 days, Norum’s release was confirmed by John Ola Shittu, who manages Joseph’s affairs.

Everton spokesman Ian Ross said: “Joseph is very grateful for all the support he has received from Evertonians, the club and his team mates.”
