Floral tributes left to best friends who just loved life

FLORAL tributes have been laid at the scene of a crash where two best friends were killed.

The victims were young father Michael Chatterton, 23, known as “Chaddo” and Sam Dunn, also 23, nicknamed “Satty”.

They were in the driver’s and front passenger seat of a red Nissan Primera which crashed into a silver Range Rover at around 10.30pm on Thursday.

Amateur boxer, Carl Cunningham, 18, who was in the back seat, was taken to Fazakerley hospital and is still fighting for his life.

Everton shirts, adorned with “Satty” and “Chaddo”, along with flowers and cards cover the railings of the scene in Dunnings Bridge Road at its junction with Copy Lane.

Flowers for Michael from his girlfriend and daughter contain a card with the heartfelt words “In loving memory of a special boyfriend and devoted dad gone but forever in our hearts”, from Tasha and Jaimee.

A floral tribute to Sam, left by his cousins, reads: “Can’t believe what happened!

“Say hi to grandad for us. Love your cousins Emma and Ben.”

Tearful friends and family members gathered at the site last night to pay tribute and read the cards of condolence.

A friend of both men, who would not be named, said: “They were best friends. They just loved life.”

Another good friend said: “They are going to be badly missed and they always made us smile.”

Both men grew up in Netherton but Michael had moved to Fazakerley, where he lived with his partner and daughter.

A card at the scene, from Phil Morgan and Amanda, reads: “Our thoughts are with all the family and friends.”

Another, signed by Lunty, says: “Gone but not forgotten. Rest in Peace.”

Carl, who lives in Aintree with his parents, is an amateur boxer who trains at Sefton Amateur Boxing Club in Netherton and has been working as an electricians apprentice for the past two years.

A family friend said: “Carl is a talented boxer and we are just praying that all his training as a fighter helps him now.

“He’s got head injuries, so it depends on time. His parents are obviously distraught.

“Carl is a lovely lad, polite and friendly and we can’t believe this has happened.

A 32-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman who were travelling in the Range Rover received minor injuries and it is believed they were checked at the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident to call with information on 0151 777 5771.
