Sword threat man jailed

A YOUNG man who threatened to use a four-foot Samurai sword to cut off the hands off police officers has been jailed.

Officers were called to Darren Delaney’s home after his mother became concerned about his erratic behaviour following a drinking session.

When constables arrived at Oakdale Close in Kirkby, the depressed 22-year-old brandished a knife.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that despite police pleas to put the weapon down, Delaney continued to shout threats.

Roy Brown, prosecuting, said when officers entered the room they discovered he was also wielding a four-foot samurai sword.

Delaney later to admitted one charge of affray on February 8.

Jailing him for 18 months, Judge William George said: “His grandmother and mother are heartbroken in the face of his behaviour..”
