Council leader joins army of volunteers to greet and help Parade of Sail visitors

WIRRAL Council leader Cllr Steve Foulkes will join more than 60 council staff to volunteer as a ste-ward during today’s Parade of Sail, which marks the start of the Tall Ships Race.

Tens of thousands of people are expect-ed on the Wirral side of the Mersey as the ships sail along the river from Wellington and Albert Docks, past Fort Perch Rock on their way to Maloy, in Norway.

Around 60 council volunteers, including Cllr Foulkes, will be on duty from 10am to 6pm to greet and dir-ect visitors and ensure the event passes off safely.

Cllr Foulkes said he was pleased to be able to offer his services with council staff who have stepp-ed forward “in droves to serve their com-munity” by volunteer-ing to be stewards.

He said: “I am proud to be joining them and would like to take this opportun-ity to thank the council staff and people from all the other organisations in Wirral who have worked so hard to ensure this event runs smoothly.”
