Liverpool Music Week and MTV announce partnership

LIVERPOOL Music Week and MTV have announced a partnership for the sixth annual winter music festival.

As the UK’s largest indoor winter music festival, Liverpool will be staging over 50 events, across 16 venues and will play host to over 250 live bands.

Big names on the line-up include Dizzee Rascal, Goldfrapp, Black Kids and Vampire Weekend.

The festival attracted a record-breaking 60,000 people last year, and will provide an eight-day musical extravaganza for the city between October 30 and November 6.

MTV will also stage its European Music Awards at the Echo Arena just days after the festival.

New York’s rock indie super group Vampire Weekend will be opening this year’s festival at Liverpool Carling Academy on Thursday, October 30.

The following night, Mercury-nominated Goldfrapp, who played at Creamfields two years ago, perform at Liverpool University and American five-piece Black Kids, who scored their first chart hit recently with I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You, headline Nation.

On Sunday, November 2, rapper Dizzee Rascal, who went to the top of the UK singles chart for the first time earlier this month with Dance Wiv Me, will also play Liverpool University.

MTV executive producer Richard Godfrey said: “We are very proud to be supporting Liverpool Music Week.

“It will provide a fantastic line-up of artists leading up to the MTV Europe Music Awards.”

The festival’s co-directors Mike Deane and James Barton said: “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with MTV, underlining just how far this festival has come since 2003.”

Council leader Warren Bradley said: “The city has been a keen supporter of Liverpool Music Week over the past few years.

“I am delighted the event has joined up with MTV for what promises to be an extremely exciting partnership.”

All artists wishing to apply to play this year’sŠ festival can do so from Friday, July 25.
