TALL SHIPS: Daredevil goes for a drive in the Mersey as Parade of Sail gets underway

Daredevil goes for a drive in the Mersey as Parade of Sail gets underway

A DAREDEVIL driver crossed the Mersey in his amphibious car just ahead of the Parade of Sail yesterday.

He left his mooring at Canning Dock, on the Liverpool side of the river, at about 1.50pm, and drove up the slip road at Egremont 40 minutes later.

The car is thought to have originally launched from New Brighton.

River authorities say they were alarmed when they received the reports because of the huge volume of traffic on the water.

The “captain” is known to Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service’s marine rescue unit.

He refused to be towed to shore by their patrol boat, but was escorted by the boat and a rescue jet ski.
