A 72-YEAR-OLD man from Wirral collapsed and died while out walking in Snowdonia.
He was among three people who rescuers were called out to in separate incidents in the area during the day.
The man was with four other friends walking on the hills just north of Bethesda on Moel Faban when he suddenly complained of chest pains.
Members of the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue team were alerted and although the 10-man team reached him quickly by Land Rover he was dead when they arrived.
Team spokesman Chris Lloyd said: “They were walking up the slopes when the man complained of chest pains and collapsed.
“One of the others made a 999 call and we were able to drive the Land Rover straight to the spot. Rescue 122 from Valley was called in and took the man to hospital.”
