Police seize £1.2m in drugs

MORE than 4,000 calls have led to police seizing £1.2m in drugs and arresting 150 dealers in Knowsley.

Safer Knowsley Partnership’s tough offensive on drug crime has also brought 200 warrants under the Misuse of Drugs Act in the last 18 months.

Police officers in Knowsley have:

Seized over £160k cash;

Seized drugs with a street value of over £1.2m;

Assisted Knowsley Housing Trust in the eviction of six tenants with drug links;

From April 2007 to date, Crimestoppers has taken 4,000 drug related calls;

As of March 2008, over 1,300 people acc- essed drug treatment programmes.

Chief Inspector John Holmes said: “We have had tremendous suc- cess over the last few years. With the public’s help, we aim to build on these successes.”

The partnership includes Knowsley Council and Knowsley Primary Care Trust.
