Atomic Kitten Liz McLarnon's TV kitchen triumph

LIZ McCLARNON was crowned Celebrity Masterchef 2008 last night during the final of the prime time BBC1 show.

The ex-Atomic Kitten star, who had never done any serious cooking before entering, fought off stiff competition to take the title.

The programme saw her compete in a first round heat, quarter final and intense final week of rounds when she saw off stiff competition from presenter Andi Peters and Toxteth-born actor, Mark Moraghan.

Throughout the final week her cooking abilities were tested to the limit as the finalists cooked for 600 builders, army cadets in field, and for Michelin-starred chefs including Michel Roux Jr.

The 27-year-old from south Liverpool, who has been recording a solo album, said: “I can’t believe it. I’m so proud. It was such a tough journey. The only down side is I had to cook my own birthday meal as I was the best cook in the house.”

During one task, the three finalists were flown 6,000 miles to the Mozambique border to cook in intense heat at one of the world’s most exclusive resorts.

This involved jointly preparing a meal for safari guides.
