Is this one of the last sightings of Madeleine McCann?

Madeleine McCann CCTV

This CCTV image was one of the earliest clues in the search for Madeleine McCann.

Taken at a petrol station on the A22 motorway, which runs east to west across the Algarve, it shows a young blonde girl hand in hand with a woman.

The picture was taken at 11.10am on May 4 last year - the day after Madeleine went missing from her family’s holiday apartment in nearby Praia da Luz.

Police seized CCTV footage from the Galp service station and showed it to Madeleine’s parents, the newly-released police files reveal.

But the lead came to nothing after the McCanns said the girl in the image was not their daughter.

The files also contain another set of CCTV images showing a small girl resembling Madeleine taken at an Algarve service station.

These pictures were also taken on the morning of May 4 last year.

They show the child inside the Repsol petrol station in Vale Paraiso, Albufeira, behind a man in his 50s or 60s.

The dossier does not appear to contain any further references to the footage and it is unclear what action, if any, was taken.
