Lawyer shortlisted for top national arts support award

A NORTH-WEST arts patron and lawyer is in the running for a national award for his work supporting the arts on Merseyside.

Jim Davies, one of the founders of law firm DWF, was nominated for an Arts and Business Award by Tate Liverpool, and has been shortlisted by the awards’ judging panel.

He is one of five shortlisted for the Business Volunteer of the Year Award and the only one from the North West. The award winners will be announced at a black tie dinner at the Victoria and Albert museum in London on November 24.

The awards are billed as a celebration of excellence in the field of cultural partnerships and sponsorship.

Mr Davies has been a member of Tate Liverpool Council for seven years, was a founding member of the current Tate Liverpool Development Committee, and is its Chair. He has also played a pivotal role in the success of Tate Liverpool’s Corporate Membership Scheme.

Liverpool John Moores University made him an honorary fellow and he is a member of the fundraising board for the university’s new Art & Design Academy. In 2007, he funded an internship enabling a student from the university to spend two months at the Guggenheim Museum, in New York.

Mr Davies said: “I have always had a passion for the arts and, outside of my work as a corporate lawyer, it’s been a privilege to use my business and legal skills in a voluntary capacity to help organisations as Tate Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University.”
