Losers get a cob on at championships

COMPETITORS from across the North-west took part in the UK corn on the cob eating championships, near Warrington.

Those taking part in the event, at the Amazing Maize at Apple Jacks farm, at Stretton, were given the challenge of consuming the most corn on the cob in 12 minutes. The pirate-themed maze has been cut from a giant five-acre field of maize or corn.

Farmer and “maze master” Joe Fryer said beforehand: “We are changing the rules of this year’s contest so the UK championship, which used to be based on 20 minutes, is now in line with the international contest.”

Among those taking part was Century FM presenter Paul Salt, from Waterloo.
