Police appeal for witnesses after boy’s mystery accident

MYSTERY still surrounds a traffic accident which left a 13-year-old boy with multiple injuries.

The boy was found at the side of a stolen Transit van which hit a lamp post at the junction of Reginald Road and The Pastures housing estate, in the St Helens area, at 2.45pm on Tuesday.

Police were called to the scene and the boy, from the Sutton area, was taken to Whiston Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable position.

The blue flat bed Ford Transit is being investigated but police believe it was stolen from Cheshire in February this year and was on false number plates, NU53 ZPN.

Inquiry officers are trying to ascertain if there was anyone else in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

House-to-house inquiries and forensic examinations have taken place.

Anyone who may have seen the van being driven in the area is asked to ring the Police Roads Policing Unit on 0151 777 5771.
