Bilge tank fall injures woman at shipyard

A WOMAN was taken to hospital after falling into a bilge tank of a ship being refurbished at Birkenhead’s Cammell Laird yard.

The incident happened at around 10.46am yesterday.

The woman is believed to have tripped and injured her hips in the tank at Dock Seven while working on the Auxiliary Fleet Vessel Fort George.

Fire crews from Wallasey and a specialist search and rescue team from Croxteth were called in to help with bringing the 23-year-old woman back to deck level.

The woman was conscious throughout the rescue, and she was put on to a spinal board and was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital.
