Row over free flights to failures

THE offer of free flights to students who fail their A-Levels has been criticised as a cheap publicity stunt.

Ryanair is offering 100 free flights to the first students who roll into Liverpool’s Walkabout bar tomorrow afternoon.

Under the tag line “So forget about going to Oxford or Cambridge, and instead enjoy a visit from Liverpool to Faro, Cork, Szczecin, Gdansk, Nimes or Nantes” the airline is offering free flights with proof of failure.

The Liverpool branch of the National Association of Headteachers, the National Union of Teachers and councillors have criticised the plan.

Julie Lyon-Taylor, Merseyside’s NUT spokesman, said: “Students will be celebrating tomorrow, not everyone will get A*s or As but Bs, Cs, Ds and Es are still a phenomenal achievement.

“Ryanair’s offer is not balanced, it doesn’t reward the students with the best results nor does it reward the students who deserve it most.

“Some students might fail because they didn’t try.”
