M-way terror hijack appeal

CHESHIRE detectives hunting a gang of four who carried out a terrifying £1m hijack are staging a roadside reconstruction.

The officers are putting a cab and trailer similar to the one targeted by the four men at Junction 7 of the M53 to try and jog drivers memories and net crucial witnesses.

A £50,000 reward on offer for those who have vital information on the crime that has left the 46-year-old lorry driver from Lancashire distraught by his ordeal.

Investigating officer DS Nigel Parr said: “This has had a major effect on the driver. We are doing everything we can to bring the offenders to justice.”

The lorry hijacking took place on Thursday, August 7, in Ellesmere Port.

A lorry from a transport company in Lancashire collected a trailer from Deeside and was on its route along the M53 to Birkenhead Docks.

At some point, a Ford Galaxy which was liveried up as a VOSA (Vehicle and Operators Services Agency) vehicle pulled in front of the lorry and illuminated its sign to say “follow me”. The lorry consequently stopped near to the junction. The men forced the driver to comply with their demands.
