We’ll toil for success - but don’t expect tolls to drop
CONSERVATIVE leader David Cameron last night said he could not promise to lift the tolls on the Mersey tunnels if the Tories won the next election.
Mr Cameron was in Merseyside as part of his Cameron Direct tour in which he faces voters and all- ows them to put questions to him.
Earlier, in an interview at the Daily Post offices, Mr Cameron said: “I think politicians have to be careful. You don’t win votes by making promises, you won’t see me making specific promise on that tonight.”
He said he would look at the issue of previous promises that had been made to Merseysiders that the tolls would be dropped.
The Conservative leader admitted that it was going to “take some time” before the party made inroads in Liverpool city council, on which the party has not had a seat for years.
“It’s hard to break back in, but break back in we will, and break back in we must.”
